Bonus Movie Review - You are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment
You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment is based on an 8-week Stanford University study involving 22 genetically identical twins. The study placed one twin on a vegan diet and the other on an omnivorous diet, both of which were healthy. Participants received pre-prepared meals for the first four weeks; for the remaining four weeks, they prepared their own meals.
According to Christopher D. Gardner, the study leader, the twins on the vegan diet experienced significant health improvements, including a 10% to 15% drop in LDL cholesterol, a 25% drop in insulin, and a 3% drop in body weight, all within eight weeks. Impressively, 21 out of the 22 participants on the vegan diet adhered to it for the entire study duration. Gardner emphasizes that using genetically identical twins enhances the accuracy of the data.
